TRUTURF LAWN INSTALLATION TIPS
All the information, guidelines and tips YOU will need to install your very own TruTurf lawn.
PREPARING THE AREA
You may begin by roughly shaping the area intended for turf with marking paint or by scraping the ground with a shovel.
Kill off remaining grass and mow it down as low as possible. You want to leave the root system to give the area a solid base.
LAYING THE BASE ROCK
Cover the intended area with at least 2 inches of base rock and create the mounds, hills, and grade you desire.
Wet the base rock thoroughly and roll it or tamp it down until it is firmly compacted and does not move.
LAYING THE WEED BARRIER
Roll out a fiberglass weed barrier over the intended area and tack down the edges every few yards with nails.
LAYING THE TURF
Cut the Turf one strip at a time and roll it out over the intended area. Make sure the grain of the turf runs the same direction for the entire area.
Butt the edges of the turf together, fold each edge back, roll out heavy duty seam tape in the middle of the seam and fold the edges back together. Repeat for each seam.
CUTTING THE TURF
Cut the overhanging edges of the turf with a sharp carpet knife to achieve your desired shape. It is recommended to dig a small trench 3 to 5 inches around the dirt edges where the turf will be laid to give a clean cut and look. Use 3 inch 16 penny nails a nail gun is ok to use at 70 psi. Nails should be placed every 3 inchs to secure the turf.
Tack down the edges and both sides of each seam every foot.
APPLYING THE INFILL
Spread 30 mesh rubber evenly over the intended area and brush it in against the grain to enable the turf to stand up.
Spread 30 mesh sand evenly over the intended area and brush it in against the grain to enable the turf to stand up and give it a nice cushion.
Finally, Brush the turf against the grain until the desired look is achieved.
